Darrell Robinson started in the tire industry in 1957 with Dunlop Tire. "I've been in the tire business all my life. I stayed in Toronto until 1968 when I was transferred to Halifax with the company. After a year, Dunlop was sold to Firestone, and I found myself out of a job.”

They say when one door closes a new one opens, and that's exactly what happened.

Darrell decided he knew enough about the tire business to go it alone. For a year he rented the old Dunlop location on Kempt Road. In 1970, he took the plunge and bought his own property at 267 Bedford Highway, where Scotia Tire Service Ltd. still operates today.

"Since I had about 14 years of tire experience, I built that end of the business first. We've been working on the mechanical end of it ever since." he says. "We built this company one customer at a time.”

John Robinson, now President of Scotia Tire, and Bill Robinson, Vice President, started out in the family business when they were 14 years old. After school, they would help out pumping gas, as well as helping with stock and doing all sorts of odd jobs.

In 1981, we opened a new location - on one of the busiest routes in Halifax - Robie Street.

Business continued to grow and in 1989 yet another location was opened, this one on Wyse Road in Dartmouth. Peter Kline started and ran the Wyse Road location and is now Manager of our commercial division and works out of the original Bedford Highway location. Peter has been with the company for over 35 years.

John's son Phillip started with the family business when he was 15, much like John had started out. He worked on weekends and during the summer and is now working full time as Assistant Manager of the Halifax, Robie Street location and also deals with all the marketing and advertising for the company.

"Dad always told us that to be successful in business you have to treat customers the way you would want to be treated." says John. "We never sell anybody something they don't need. It's like Dad said, if you're honest, people will come back."

We celebrated our 35th Anniversary with the Grand Opening of a brand new six bay garage on 975 Cole Harbour Road in Dartmouth.

We have the advantage of a tremendous amount of warehousing, giving us the ability to carry a great deal of stock. We carry the largest Michelin passenger and light truck inventory in Metro.
